Countries:

At the end of October CILC received the good news from Nuffic that it has been chosen, together with the consortium partner MUNDO-Maastricht University, to jointly implement the project entitled “Strengthening Forensic Expertise and management of Scenes of Crime in the Justice Law and Order Sector in Uganda”, together with the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) in Uganda.

The project will be implemented under the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity Development in Higher Education (NICHE) funded by Nuffic. The focus will be on strengthening policy, the legal and institutional framework for forensic science management and creating a better understanding of its role in the administration of justice. Skills and organizational capacity in forensic expertise and scenes of crime management will be enhanced through long and short-term training. This will be supported by the development of core curricula and course materials for theoretical and practical training programmes in forensic science.

Other partners in this project are the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) and the Maastricht Forensic Institute (TMFI), and in Uganda the Forensic Science Department (FSD) and the Regional Centre for Quality Health Care Mulago (RCQHC). The implementation of the project will start on January 1st 2011. Its duration will be for 4 years.
