Russia // Delegation informed on Dutch system of proprietary rights

The President of the Russian Supreme Arbitration Court, Anton Alexandrovich Ivanov, accompanied by four legal experts, visited CILC from 13 – 17 September 2010. This high level delegation is part of the working group on Proprietary Rights of the Russian Research Center for Private Law, an advisory body to President Medvedev.

This working group is drafting amendments to the first part of the Russian Civil Code and the visiting experts sought specific Dutch legal expertise for shaping and fine-tuning the laws on land registration, the conveyance of real property and property protection. During its stay in The Netherlands the Russian delegation consulted the minister of Justice Mr. Hirsch Ballin, The Kadaster International and the Royal Dutch Notarial Society. At the close of the week the Russian experts met with professor of Civil Law and European Private Law at Maastricht University Sjef Van Erp.

Based on the Dutch input the working group will now sharpen the amendments for the Civil Code and introduce a fully amended version to the Presidential Administration in the beginning of next year. After that it will be presented to the State Duma.
