Countries:

On Wednesday, November 24 CILC received the head of the Astana branch of the Kazachstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law, Miss Anara Ibrayeva. The discussion focused on imperfections in the Kazakh Legal system ranging from court management problems and process organization to specific legislative shortcomings. CILC and the Kazachstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law agreed to explore the possibilities for technical judicial cooperation to improve parts of the Kazakh judicial system.

In the afternoon CILC spoke to Mr. Chen Zerui, a Chinese lawyer who works in Beijing’s leading law firm, Mo Shaoping. After an introduction to Chinese judicial culture and practice, Mr. Zerui highlighted the position of lawyers in the Chinese legal system. CILC’s experts Mr. Gosses and Mr. Van de Muijsenbergh shifted the conversation to concrete legal cooperation when they touched upon the previous fruitful cooperation with Chinese academics and law makers on the translation of parts of the Dutch Civil Code. The discussion provided a new impetus for the continuation of this work.
