Between 15 – 28 May 2016, a group of Border Police officers from Bosnia and Herzegovina paid a visit to the Netherlands for a two-week training programme on document checking. The advanced level training programme took place at the ID Centre in Veldhoven (first week) and the Expertise Centre Identity Fraud and Documents at Schiphol Airport (second week). This widened the so-called Doc 1 expertise, which the group gathered during four previously conducted basic level training courses in Sarajevo and Banja Luka in November 2015 and January 2016.
The advanced level document training combined in-depth theoretical courses with practical work sessions on conventional and digital printing techniques, practical document checking, ID fraud & Biometry. The programme, to a large extent, was structured by the principle of ‘learning by doing’, and this allowed the participants to get familiar with the use of various optical variable devices. Examination sessions concluded the training weeks, and all participants passed the test and received a Doc 2 certificate.
In September, a Training of Trainers programme will be organised to teach 5-10 of the Doc 2 level Border Police officers the know-how and skills to train their colleagues, ensuring the sustainability of these training efforts for the entire group of Bosnian border guards.
