CILC is looking for an intern.
Background
CILC is an international project organization working to strengthen justice sector institutions
and the rule of law worldwide. We design and implement rule of law and security reform
projects in cooperation with governments, international organizations, and local partners
through capacity building and training activities. As part of our project team, we are seeking a
motivated student who is eager to gain practical experience in the field of international project
management and justice sector cooperation.
The internship offers a student the opportunity to develop skills in project planning and
implementation as well as research-to-action approach to international development. The
intern will provide day-to-day support to the project officer and (senior) project manager in the
implementation of the project “A fair, transparent and accountable criminal justice system in Ukraine”. It is part of the larger Dutch project on Restoring Dignity and Justice in Ukraine: A whole-of-government approach to advancing accountability for international crimes, which we are implementing in collaboration with the T.M.C. Asser Institute, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC), and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO). This position is mainly based in The Hague but will involve traveling to relevant countries for the project. Based on interest and background, the intern will be assigned a research task relevant to CILC mission and project portfolio.
The Internship
The intern will support the implementation through administrative, logistical, and research-related tasks. You will work closely with the (senior) project manager and project officer in organising missions and events in the Netherlands and abroad, and where possible, you may also attend these activities. The role includes assisting with financial administration, such as supporting the preparation of project financial reports, and helping to organise, manage, and archive digital project documentation.
In addition, the intern will contribute to the Veterans in the Criminal Justice Chain research project, which examines reintegration approaches and responses to veterans within the criminal justice system.
This position offers hands-on experience in international legal cooperation, applied social research, and project coordination in a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural environment.
The ideal candidate is a Master’s student in law, criminology, social sciences, psychology, international relations, or public policy, with strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
Project Support and Administration
- Supporting the project team with logistical and administrative support for the implementation, including booking flights, hotels, arranging visas, setting meetings, support with financial project administration, the development of communication materials.
- Preparing and updating project documentation (staff contracts, terms of reference,
timesheets, agendas, etc.).
- Supporting in drafting project reports for a donor organisation.
- Supporting financial administration tasks such as tracking project expenses and preparing financial overviews.
- Making minutes of meetings when required.
- Being the contact point for experts, local partners and partner organisations in the project implementation and acquisition on administrative and logistical issues.
- Supporting the research by conducting desk research on thematic areas relevant to this project, including, but not limited to, international criminal law, transnational criminal law, transitional justice, etc.
- Support in the collection, systematisation, and preliminary analysis of data (literature review, survey data, and interviews with veterans and professionals).
- Support in the facilitation of communication and coordination of tasks among researchers, consultants, and institutions.
General Support
- Providing administrative and organizational support to the project team.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date digital records of project files.
- Managing the project page in AFAS (CILC’s digital project management tool) by uploading and organizing documents, contracts, reports, and other materials.
- Organizing and maintaining the project’s physical filing system.
- Assisting in internal and external communication with stakeholders.
- Supporting other tasks as required by the project officer or (senior) project manager.
- Support the organisation of online meetings, focus groups, and workshops, including drafting minutes and following up on action points.
Who are you
- Enrolled in a relevant (applied) university program;
- Strong interest in international cooperation and development, justice and security sector reforms.Someone with a supportive and flexible attitude with a hands-on working style;
- Who works accurately and detail-oriented;
- Who has organisational skills;
- Who is fluent in English (written and spoken). Dutch / Ukrainian is considered an advantage;
- experience in the following systems (Excel, Word, PDF (adobe acrobat) is preferred;
- Has an educational background in law / politics / international relations / business administration, project management / project administration;
- Has the capability to work in a small team, willing to work flexibly to meet tight deadlines;
- Someone with strong interpersonal, intercultural and organisational skills;
- Who has a strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines;
- Who is willing to travel for projects implementation;
- Someone who preferably is living in the region of the Hague (limited possibility of online working).
Conditions
- The internship is intended as a learning experience for students seeking professional development in project management and international cooperation. The internship can be concluded in partnership with the university in order for the student to receive ECTS.
- The intern will receive guidance and mentorship from the project officer and senior project manager.
- The contract is for 6 – 12 months with the option for renewal.
- The intern will receive a stipend of 600 euros per month (based on 38-hour working week).

By the end of the internship, the intern will:
- Develop skills in designing and implementing training activities in an international setting.
- Gain insight into the organization and management of international donor-funded projects.
- Develop practical skills in project administration, coordination, and financial tracking.
- Strengthen research and analytical skills in the field of rule of law and justice cooperation.
- Enhance organizational, communication, and teamwork skills in a professional international environment.
